Gross Inaccuracies: HOW DARE YOU QUESTION THESE POLITICIANS!

Local layabout, Gary Gross, took to his blog today to register his displeasure over a recent town hall meeting hosted by Representatives Banaian & Gottwalt and Senator Pederson. The purpose of these meetings, apparently, is to only hear from those members of the community with whom the elected officials agree. Well, at least according to Gary Gross. Any departure from this formula can only be the result of mean old union thugs who come and demand answers. It really is a sad state of affairs here in ‘merica with these unionish people and their questions. It was OUTRAGEOUS, Gross says, that people (who happen to be in a union) came out to attend this town hall meeting. Can YOU believe they even asked QUESTIONS? The … Continue reading

Who Controls The HHS Committee in the MN House? Steve Gottwalt or Mary Franson?

In our last episode, titled ‘The On Again/Off Again Love Affair Of Steve Gottwalt & Obamacare‘ we found Gottwalt trying reclaim health exchanges from Governor Dayton. At the end of that post, I wondered how long Gottwalt would continue to love the Obamacare with the tea party breathing down his neck. Well, this article provides a glimmer of an answer. Of course, he explains, Obamacare is an evil no good very bad thing but this ONE part of Obamacare is maybe sort of not so bad: St. Cloud Republican, Rep. Steve Gottwalt, who chairs the House Health And Human Services Reform Committee went so far as to say that Republicans need to come up with their own kind of exchange. “An exchange as a model … Continue reading

Gross Inaccuracies: Government Jobs Are For CONSERVATIVES ONLY!

For some time now this blog has been following the highly amusing story of conservative activist and local layabout, Gary Gross, trying desperately to convince his readers that his friend, a conservative elected official and public university professor, Jeff Johnson deserves his government job at Saint Cloud State University. You see, despite all his other writings about how the super evil menace of government should be cut to the bone, Gross feels that perhaps an exemption should be made for Mr. Johnson because frankly he is super awesome and his government job is useful to the community [disclaimer: the aforementioned statement about the super awesomeness of Mr. Johnson's government job should in no way indicate that maybe government can create jobs]. [on a side note, … Continue reading

Kriesel Smacks Down Gottwalt With “Mind Your Business”

The St. Cloud Times came out with an article today about social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook and described how local leaders are currently using them to stay connected to their constituents. While most of the article is pretty standard stuff about politicians using the sites for varying purposes and to varying degrees, there was also some intra-party fireworks playing out between Representative John Kriesel (R) and Representative Steve Gottwalt (R). Gottwalt took a shot at Kriesel for his recent twitter exchange with Bernard Berrian: While Berrian drew the bulk of criticism for the exchange, Gottwalt says Kriesel’s posts are “a cautionary note” for other legislators. Gottwalt told the Times that Kriesel’s posts to Berrian were “not something I would have done.” “He … Continue reading

St. Cloud Times Editorial Board: House District 15A &15B

The St. Cloud Times recently conducted endorsement interviews with the candidates vying for the House District 15A and House District 15B seats. In District 15A, the incumbent is Republican Steve Gottwalt vs. DFLer Joanne Dorsher. There is little doubt in my mind that Joanne Dorsher would serve the people far better than the hyper partisan Gottwalt. While Steve and his supporters would like to pretend that he has been good for education and has worked well across the aisle, the reality is that if he doesn’t agree with you his response is little more than scorn and dismissal. As always, in my mind, education is the top issue and time after time Gottwalt has been an abject failure. In District 15B, the incumbent is DFLer … Continue reading
