Republican Representative Announces Amendment He Voted FOR Is Really A “Non-Issue”

Anti-Marriage Amendment Is Now A "non-issue"

To hear conservatives talk about the anti-marriage amendment during the 2011 legislative session you might think it was the most pressing issue to be decided during that or any session. After hours of emotional debate, the amendment was passed and will be decided by voters on the 2012 general election ballot.

Today, however, I noticed an interesting tweet from Representative Branden Petersen (R) who voted FOR the amendment. That issue that was so important during 2011 that we had to take time away from negotiating a budget is now a “non-issue“. It’s nice to see that the Republican Party acknowledges that their actions were a huge waste of time but I suspect that is little solace to the numerous families who will be affected by Petersen’s decision to go along with enshrining discrimination into our state constitution.

Query : Is the tweet a comment on the “Marriage
    Amendment
” or the “bumper sticker” ?

IMO, this issue may comeback to haunt “God’s Old Party” … I sense
increased conversation … neighbors talking as they explain that a relative is
gay and how that has changed their views … heck, last night in Mankato, the
City Council started the discussion on a resolution over the Constitutional
Amendment. City Councils in Golden Valley, Duluth, Minneapolis, Saint Paul, St.
Louis Park, Edina and Falcon Heights have already voted to oppose the marriage
    amendment.

And even from within, the MN-GOP continues to hear other voices …
Minnesota Log Cabin Republicans have expressed their view,“As
conservatives we advocate for individual responsibility and freedom and a
smaller government, which allows for people to make their own personal choices
and maintain more control over their own lives.”

As well as OpEds from former Medtronic CEO Bill George and
John Taft in the Star-Tribune tells me that business may speak out more
this year (even if Target may just see this as a way to sell tee shirts.)

BTW … last Friday, I saw a bumper sticker … opposing the Republican
    Amendment

… the outcome for November’s election may be determined by what people do
in the closet of the voting booth, but the tide is turning.
