Marriage Restriction Amendment Foes Trade Jabs at the MN State Fair
A nice mashup of the debate between the anti-marriage amendment supporters and opponents… Courtesy of The Uptake: Marriage Restriction Amendment Foes Trade Jabs at the MN State Fair from The UpTake. Like this? Watch the latest episode of The UpTake on Blip! http://blip.tv/the-uptake/watch The trademark orange of the MN United for All Families was visible from far away. An army of volunteers sold shirts, hugged clipboards, talked to voters and handed out fans that cooled supporters on a recent steamy day. Up the way, a more subdued atmosphere was present at the Minnesota for Marriage booth. Supporters handed out literature and talked to voters, but the vibe was toned down. Thatapos;s not the only difference coming between both sides of the marriage debate-itapos;s one of … Continue reading

How Many “Bills” Has YOUR MN Congressperson “Passed”?
Earlier today a tweet scrolled across my tweetdeck by a user named “Mad Voter in MN CD4” that caught my interest. The user, I assume a conservative, asked the Minnesota DFL Party and Democrats in general, I assume, to count the number of “bills” passed by Minnesota Congresswoman Betty McCollum who represents the 4th Congressional District. The implication being that McCollum is ineffective due to the perceived lack of “bills” passed. Given the limitations of twitter and its 140 character limit, the tweet did not define what types of bills or legislation or amendments were acceptable to “Mad Voter” nor did the tweet address whether they truly believed whether the number of bills passed by a member of Congress was the best metric for effectiveness. … Continue reading

Keith Ellison: Michele Bachmann Wants Women “Back In The Kitchen” And “Pregnant”
I have a fairly strict policy here at Outstate Politics of ignoring the various actions and antics of Representative Michele Bachmann. Partly because I would rather use my energies focusing on state politics but mostly because it seems a futile exercise to cover a woman over saturated in coverage anyway. However, I am going to make an exception here because it involves another member of the Minnesota delegation calling out Bachmann and her extremism. This week, Representative Ellison (D) attended a conference for an organization known as Campus Progress. This organization works for “progressive solutions” by getting young people involved in various forms of activism. Ellison delivered a speech about organizing both on and off campus and called these young people another generation of activists … Continue reading

Representative Ellison Supports Limited Force In Libya
Representative Ellison (D) supports United States involvement and the use of limited force in the Libyan conflict. Ellison justified the conflict by saying, DO WE WANT TO SIGNAL TO OTHER MURDEROUS DICTATORS WHILE THE PEOPLE ARE STANDING UP FOR DEMOCRACY THAT THEY HAVE A FREE HAND TO SLAUGHTER THEIR PUBLIC?
