Earlier this month Representative Mary Franson let it slip in an interview that she was being forced by her caucus to abandon her principles in favor of governing. The implication was that leadership in the House Republican Caucus had decided to put principles aside and that Franson herself was fighting the good fight to keep her own. This obviously didn’t sit well with the caucus and Franson was subsequently forced to apologize to everyone in the caucus. Was this a sign of a greater struggle between hard core conservatives in the party and the leadership which needs to present a budget plan to a state which at best is moderate if not slightly left of moderate?
