Sen. Parry Angered By Laughter Directed At Republicans

Courtesy of The Uptake: Minnesota State Senator Mike Parry (R-Waseca), who recently insinuated that Governor Mark Dayton is a drug addict, threatens to clear the room when laughter erupts over a fellow Republican’s comment that the intent of a hearing was to “treat people fairly.” The hearing was about collective bargaining agreements with two of the stateapos;s unions. Republicans have tried to outlaw unions for Minnesota employees. Senator Parry, who is running for Congress and will not be serving in next yearapos;s legislature then is told by a Representative Leon Lillie (DFL-North St. Paul) “it’s probably a blessing that you’re down to your last three meetings.” The room again erupts in laughter and Senator Perry calls an abrupt 10 minute recess to the hearing. Senator Harkin Applauds NLRB Proposed Rules

Senator Tom Harkin, Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, discusses the National Labor Relations Board’s new proposed rules that would modernize the process that workers use to decide if they want to form a union. The proposed rules discourage abuses that are used to prevent employees from organizing and improve the consistency and efficiency of the election process.

Things I Read Today…

So here is the thing, I don’t have the kind of time it takes to do the heavy researching and writing of some blogs. So, in an attempt to do at least some writing every single day I am going to start doing a brief post filled with links to articles I have been reading today and which I believe you should also be reading. Here goes… I have promised not to talk any more about alternative teacher licensure because I firmly believe it will slowly fade into the dustbin of history as yet another idea touted as the savior of education but will accomplish nothing.
